Sandra Folarin

What are you most looking forward to this service term?
I look forward to gaining direct experience with the public health issues in the city of Chicago. Numerous health issues abound in the city, many of them due to differing racial and socioeconomic demographics and neighborhood segregation that give way to health inequity and consequently, health disparities. I hope that this experience allows me to further understand the issues on both an individual and population scale in order to devise strategies for reduction and potential elimination in health disparities and health inequities.

What are your plans after AmeriCorps service?
I plan to apply to medical school following my service year at National Health Corps in order to become a physician and later serve underserved communities.

I'm interested in learning about...
Stigma in healthcare, healthcare delivery and access in marginalized communities, access to proper nutrition in low-income and immigrant families. and asthma disparities within the city of Chicago.
