What is your title and role at your host site?
Outreach Coordinator. My responsibilities include assisting women in finding the proper resources to ensure that they have a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby. All responsibilities serve the ultimate goal and vision of Healthy Start to reduce infant mortality.
Why did you join the National Health Corps Florida AmeriCorps program?
I joined the National Health Corps program to be productive in my gap year between undergrad and starting nursing school. I wanted to do something related to my BS in Kinesiology as well as serve a community and gain experience with diverse populations. I hope to channel my passion in helping others to better their own lives and provide a strong foundation for their children to thrive.
What are you hoping to gain from your year of service?
Making lifelong friends, experience with a variety of populations, overcoming challenge, utilization of my leadership skills, learning from the people I meet along the way and the fulfillment of doing something larger than myself through education/outreach.
What are your plans after AmeriCorps service?
I plan on applying to an accelerated BSN program, and eventually getting my NP.
Where do you envision yourself in 5 years?
Hopefully as a successful nurse or nurse practitioner working in a cardiac unit with a dog, maybe two.
