Educational Background

Why did you join NHC?
While shadowing physicians at Health Center #6 in high school and college, I was exposed to NHC members where I saw a glimpse into their service term. I was fascinated that young college graduates were able to make a difference in the public health sphere and I wanted to gain the same valuable experience in helping the most vulnerable populations in Philadelphia.

What are your plans after NHC?
Medical School

What sparked your interest in community service?
Throughout my life I have always volunteered helping in hospitals, soup kitchens, and nursing homes. However, being a Bonner Leader in college allowed me to explore service in a different light. I started volunteering for non-profit organizations whose goal was to help underserved minority populations. While volunteering, I heard of the many worries and fears of my students which not only affected their schoolwork but their health as well. This embedded the importance of social determinants of health in medicine.
