Educational background: Bachelors of Arts in Neuroscience from Oberlin College
What is your title and role at your host site?
Maternal Child Health Coordinator
Why did you join AmeriCorps/National Health Corps?
I joined AmeriCorps/National Health Corps to have a direct impact on those who are not being served adequately by the current healthy system. Health disparities and inequities are systemic barriers that disproportionately impact marginalized populations. The world today is not functioning effectively in providing support, resources, education and care for these individuals. As such, I hope to fight health disparities and improve healthcare on a community level in Pittsburgh.
What are you hoping to gain from your year of service?
I am interested in defining and expanding my interest in the public health field through this year of service and engaging with underserved communities. Being a member of NHC Pittsburgh will allow me to have a support system that will push me to grow professionally and personally and challenge me to be a better health advocate.
What are your plans after AmeriCorps service?
After AmeriCorps I plan to complete another year long program before I enter graduate school in public health.
Where do you envision yourself in 5 years?
In five years, I hope to have graduated with my Master’s in public health. I envision myself working in an environment that allows me to be highly connected to community health, striving to eliminate health disparities and inequality.
